Thymosin Alpha-1 (TA-1)

Thymosin Alpha-1 (TA-1, also called Tα1 or Thymalfasin) is a 28-amino-acid, N-terminally acetylated peptide originally isolated from the thymic tissue fraction Thymosin Fraction 5. Sequence-identical to the endogenous human peptide, it carries a molecular formula of C129H215N33O55 and a molecular weight of approximately 3,108 g/mol (CAS 62304-98-7). Its acetylated N-terminus is a defining structural feature confirmed by mass spectrometry.

TA-1 is one of the most extensively studied immunomodulatory peptides in the thymosin family. Research literature examines its interactions with Toll-like receptor signaling pathways, its influence on dendritic cell and T-cell maturation, and its modulation of cytokine networks and natural killer cell activity. Research Findings

Research on Thymosin Alpha-1 describes pleiotropic immunomodulatory activity: enhancement of T-cell and dendritic cell maturation, augmentation of natural killer cell activity, and modulation of cytokine expression through Toll-like receptor signaling. It is one of the most clinically investigated thymic peptides internationally, with a substantial literature spanning viral infection, sepsis, and oncology models.

Thymosin Alpha-1 was first isolated and characterized in the 1970s by Allan Goldstein and colleagues from Thymosin Fraction 5, a thymic tissue extract.
